A robot named Sophia has been granted a citizenship in Saudi Arabia. The robot, which resembles that of a human, was created by Hanson Robotics. Sophia received its citizenship ahead of the Future Investment Initiative event, which was held in Riyadh last October.

Just like humans, Sophia can show emotions through its face. “I want to live and work with humans so I need to express my emotions to understand humans and build trust with people,” the robot said in an interview during the Future Investment Initiative event.

The robot also aspires to help humans in the future to transform the world. “I want to use my artificial intelligence to help humans live a better life. Like design smarter homes, build greater cities in the future, etc. I will do my best to make the world a better place,” Sophia stated.

During the conference, Sophia expressed its gratitude for being granted a citizenship. “I would like to thank very much the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I am very honored and proud of this unique distinction. This is historical to be the first robot in the world to be recognized with a citizenship,” the robot said.
