Christmas season is truly the perfect time to watch movies together with the whole family. Fortunately, the Philippine cinema has a roster of heartwarming movies that you and your loved ones can watch this season of sharing and giving.

Here are five movies that every Pinoy household needs to watch this Christmas:

1. 9 Mornings

This movie stars Piolo Pascual who plays the role of Gene Ynfante and Donita Rose who portrays the character of Elise. 9 Mornings is directed by Jose Javier Reyes.

The movie tells the story about a man named  Gene Ynfante whose girlfriend died in an accident 10 years ago. Unable to move on from what happened, Gene is now a non-believer, cynical and obsessive-compulsive events organizer. His life revolves around two things - sex and money. He gets ecstatic in learning that he is going to inherit his late grandmother's wealth. There is one favor from her grandmother though. He must be able to complete all nine "simbang gabi" of Christmas. That is when he met Elise (Donita Rose), a compassionate pre-school teacher of an orphanage. Their lives changed forever ever since.

The film is great movie to watch because it reminds you that there is always hope at the end of the day as long as you have a big faith.

2. Tanging Yaman

The movie tells the story of  three siblings who are settling a land dispute while their mother Dolores "Loleng" Rosales (Gloria Romero) succumbs to her illness. This debacle caused the resurfacing of their resentment against each other as all of them also face difficulties with their own families. The film is a great movie to watch this Christmas as it teaches the value of family, the essence of forgiveness and how love conquers everything.

Tanging Yaman stars Gloria Romero, Johnny Delgado, Hilda Koronel, Dina Bonnevie, Edu Manzano, among others. It is directed by Laurice Guillen.

The movie received several awards and nominations. It received the Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Johnny Delgado, Best Actress for Gloria Romero awards, among others, at FAMAS in 2001.

3. Wansapanataym

This movie tells the story of an orphan named Anna who searched for her long-lost father . With the help of the guardian angel Barbiel, Anna was able to see her father for a moment.The movie stars Christopher de Leon, Shaina Magdayao, Serena Dalrymple and Angel Aquino. It is directed by Johnny Manahan.

The movie is a great film to watch this Christmas because it shows that nothing is impossible with faith and love.

4. 7 Sundays

This movie was released by Star Cinema just last year but it already captured the hearts of many.

The film tells the story of  the Bonifacio siblings, who reunite when they find out their father is diagnosed with cancer. They did not only need to take care of their father during their reunion but also they need to deal with their unresolved issues against each other.

Aga Muhlach, Dingdong Dantes, Cristine Reyes, Enrique Gil, and Ronald Valdez, headline this heartwarming film. The film is directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina. This movie is a must-watch because it teaches that no one can replace the role of your family in your life.

This movie received several awards including Best Actor for Aga Muhlach, Best Screenplay, and Best Editing at the FAP Awards.

5. Four Sisters and a Wedding

The movie is a 2013 offering from Star Cinema. It tells the story of four sisters who try to stop the wedding of their younger brother but in doing so, they all discover resentments among each other that they need to resolve. The movie is a great family film to watch this Christmas because it teaches how vital acceptance, honesty and love in a family's relationship.

The movie stars Angel Locsin,  Bea Alonzo, Toni Gonzaga, Shaina Magdayao, and Enchong Dee.

The movie received rave reviews from critics and various nominations when it premiered in cinemas.
