A sports erotic thriller is set to hit the big screen this coming Cinema One Originals Festival starring Tony Labrusca titled “Double Twisting Double Back.” Directed by award-winning director Joseph Abello, the film tells the story of a gymnast who strives to become the best in his field in the Philippines.
In an interview with Cinemanews, director Abello shared, “Gusto niyang maging pinakamagaling na Pinoy na gymnast so ‘yung struggle niya bilang athlete, ‘yung journey niya para maging sobrang galing, at ‘yung parang laban niya sa elements para ma-fulfill niya ‘yung goal niya, that's the story.”
When asked if what inspired him to create a movie centered on gymnastics, he relayed, “Nag-gymnastics ako before, from high school to college. Wala lang parang nakita ko walang gumagawa nito. Itong mundong ito, very unique siya, hindi pa nakikita sa film industry.”
Aside from the story of an athlete, the movie will also tackle the subject of sex addiction. “It’s done with sensitivity. You just show eh, you don’t want to judge a character, parang you empathize with them and lahat naman tayo eh at the end of the day may addiction whether shopping, Facebook or work. Nagkataon lang sa kanya sex so parang alam mo ‘yun, you just really have to show ‘yung mga human side nila bilang sex addict,” he stated.
Meanwhile, in an interview with the lead star Tony, he admitted that portraying his character was very challenging. “Siguro dahil psychological nga po siya. Ang mahirap is kapag sobrang drama nong eksena, tapos madaling araw na. Iyon ‘yung mahirap eh kasi pag 4:00 AM or 5:00 AM na mahirap na umiyak sa ganong oras. It was challenging physically dahil may gymnastics and at the same time your battling what it's like to have something wrong with you, so it was challenging for sure,” Tony said.
