Philippine cinema has truly evolved and has become immensely diverse over the years. Numerous women directors have sprung and have given life to innumerable stories of love, heartbreak, family, adventures and everything in between. To pay tribute to women directors who have shaped the cinematic experience of every Filipino moviegoer, Cinema One will be featuring films directed by the female directors of modern cinema.

1. Joyce Bernal

Where it all began?

Joyce studied film and audio-visual communication at the University of the Philippines. She began her career as an editor in 1994 and soon realized that she wanted to become a director.

What's new?

Joyce was tapped to direct the third State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Duterte.

2. Antoinette Jadaone

Where it all began?

Antoinette studied at the University of the Philippines with a degree in Broadcast Communications to Film. She worked then as a continuity supervisor for Joyce Bernal before writing and directing her first full-length film “Six Degrees of Separation From Lilia Cuntapay." The movie bagged six awards at the 2011 Cinema One Originals Digital Film Festival.

What's new?

Antoinette is currently directing the television series "Since I Found You” starring Piolo Pascual, Arci Munoz, Empoy Marquez, Alessandra de Rossi and JC de Vera.

3. Sigrid Andrea Bernardo

Where it all began?

Sigrid has been creating short films since 2005. She was also an actress and a theater director at Dulaang UP.  Her passion and unique style of directing, lead her to directing the critically acclaimed films including the independent movie blockbuster hit “Kita Kita.”

What's new?

Sigrid is currently working on the comeback film of Claudine Barretto for Viva Films.

4. Cathy-Garcia Molina

Where it all began?

She studied film at UP Diliman. She started as an assistant director in the "Bulag, Pipi at Bingi" movie. Her first directorial film was Star Cinema's "Bcuz of U" in 2004.

What's new?

She is currently directing the upcoming movie of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla titled "The How's of Us."

"If my directorial style evolves, it’s not intentional. As we mature, we absorb new things and discard the old ones. We get to know what will work and what is useless. We grow as a person and our stands on many subjects like love are likely to change as well. It is not intentional."
